Our Stay Safe Protocols

We prayerfully made the decision that we should go forward with VBS with the thought in mind that if your child could only have one key activity this summer, we wanted it to be one that taught them about God and pointed them to Jesus. We will all have to work together to make it possible for us to host VBS in a way that is safe for the children and for our staff. It must be understood that we are prepared to shut down the program at a moment's notice should community circumstances require it. If your child/family has been in contact with large groups of people where strict adherence to social safety protocols has not occured, we respectfully ask you not to send them to the in-person VBS (we will happily include them in the online activity instead). We will all feel safer if we know we are caring for each other by keeping our distances, washing our hands, wearing our masks, AND by limiting our peripheral contacts as much as possible.

  • Group Sizes

    • Children are grouped 7 to a leader
    • The groups attend science, game and craft individually. Two groups (14 children max) go to Assembly/Bible story together, with adequate distance between each child and between the stage leaders/children.
    • Children have their own personal craft / activity kits to minimize sharing of items that cannot be readily sanitized between uses
    • Max of 35 children attending in a session; this is drastically below any "normal" VBS participation at Parkway
  • Building access and usage

    • To restrict the overall number of people in the building, the front doors will be locked during the program. Any visitor to the building can gain access only through receptionist
    • Parents are not walking children into building - all children will check in and out through curbside carpool
    • The indoor climbing tubes and arcade are closed for the summer
    • If parent needs to reach us during the day call 281-494-5050 ext. 110 or text 281-732-3985 (Mrs. Valerie) and make sure to tell us the name of the child
  • Healthy Habits

    • Rapid Temperature Check and confirmation of the Covid-19 questions will take place before children are released to us from the car. Temperature above 100* disqualifies all siblings from attending that day.
    • Staff and children will wear masks the entire time they are here (children will be given a paper bag to place their mask in if they have any reason to remove it, as the only acceptable place for their mask to be is on their face or in their bag!)
    • If a child develops symptoms of sickness they will immediately be removed from the group and comforted/cared for in the isolation room while waiting for parent/caretaker to pick them up.
    • Handwashing/sanitizing time is built into the schedule. Children wash their hands upon arrival; staff sanitizes commonly used areas such as door handles, bathroom faucets, etc. regularly.
  • what to pack for each day

    • NOTHING BUT A MASK!
    • We will have small water cups available so children can hydrate as needed
    • We are not serving a snack this year, as food handling/consumption adds risk we can avoid
    • For those who had been attending Kids Adventures, we are NOT using the Family Bags. The children's name tags  will be placed on the child as soon as they walk into the building and kept here all three days.
    • Each child will have a VBS backpack, which their group leader will keep overnight. These will be sent home on Thursday.
  • Carpool procedures

    • Morning Session: Check In begins at 9:50.  Check Out begins at 11:50
    • Afternoon Session: Check in begins at 12:50. Check Out begins at 2:50
    • Cars will enter from New Territory Blvd. and form two lines in front of the ministry center, one in the lane closest to the building and another parallel to that on the other side of the island.
    • Staff will complete the health check (temperature/answer health questions), then assist children to unload and walk into the building.
    • To expedite the process, parents are asked NOT to get out of your car to help unload.
    • On Tuesday, staff will hand you a pick up sign to place in the windshield when you return so we know which children you are authorized to pick up. Please make sure to have this with you when you return.
    • If your Waiver Forms are due, staff will also collect your waiver form. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FORM
    • After dropping children off, you will pull straight through to the area in front of the Worship Center and carefully exit via Homeward Way.
    • Families arriving after CarPool has been shut down use the drive through closest to the Ministry Center and wait for a staff member to come outside to screen and check in the children. If you will be later than 10:10 please text 281-732-3985 with family name and expected arrival time so we can watch for you.
    • End of day pick up will be in the same spot and again, parents are asked NOT to get out of your car to help. Staff will place child in carseat, then once you pull forward and are clear of the carpool lane, please pull aside so you can get out and secure the restraints/give your child a hug!
